The damn huge gallery is not, as its name might imply, a very large gallery. It is really more average sized, actually. What makes it different from the thousands of other SM galleries out there is that its images are so rediculously huge (most of them are around 1300 x 1800) that they can easily be used for making layouts and such. To make browsing easier and to save bandwidth, you have a chance to preview each image before viewing the damn huge version. note: Galleries open in a popup window.
